Operation clean-up aboard and around grounded ship
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

PANAJI, SEPT 13: About 12 tonnes of diesel fuel has already been pumped out of the engine of the grounded ship, about 100 metres from the Candolim-Sinquerim coast, and the operation is likely to be completed within a few days.

``It will take a few more days to complete the exercise of flushing out the diesel oil from the ship, North Goa District Collector Sanjeev Khairwar said here today.

The 1,16,000 DWT vessel, grounded in June, is carrying a total of 25 tonnes of diesel fuel and a private firm has undertaken the operation, he said.

Alongside, the cleaning up of the beach affected by the leak last week was also in progress, Khairwar said, adding the leak has already been plugged.
