Morcha to save rain trees at Cadell Road
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

SEPT 13: Nearly 400 tree lovers and activists will hold a dharna at Cadell Road (Veer Savarkar Marg), opposite the Dadar Catering College, on September 14 to protest BMC's decision to cut down two rain trees in the locality.

A memorandum in this context has also been given to the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

``We have been struggling to save the two rain trees at Cadell Road for over three years now. But this time it looks like the two beautiful trees will finally be chopped as it allegedly obstructs the road traffic, which is not really true,'' said activist Nandu Naik of 'Friends of Trees', which has taken an initiative in saving the two trees.

The decision to cut the trees was recently taken by the Tree Authority of India, Greater Mumbai, after the local corporators complained that several road accidents had occured, because of the trees. However, the activists feel that the accidents happen solely because of rash driving.
